Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou Markoullis participated on Tuesday in a Francophonie ministerial meeting, in New York, during which the main political developments in countries of the Arab Spring and other French-speaking countries, with emphasis on Egypt, Tunisia, Congo and the Ivory Coast, were discussed.
Markoullis is in New York, accompanying President of the Republic Demetris Christofias at the UN General Assembly, where they attended a high level meeting on Libya, convened by the UN Secretary General.
A total of fifty heads of state and government participated in the meeting, expressing support to the transitional programme of Libya`s new authorities and promising assistance in efforts to establish a state of law, safeguard human rights and promote the recovery of the economy and public safety.
Markoullis also participated in a ministerial meeting of the EU member states on the Middle East question, and an EU meeting with Russia in the context of political dialogue.
