Head of the single-member Commission of Inquiry into the deadly Mari blast, Polys Polyviou, has stated that Commission’s public hearings are due to be concluded by 15 – 16 September 2011 and the report of the commission will be followed.
Polyviou was speaking to the press following President of the Republic Demetris Christofias’s appearance on Monday before the Commission, set up by the Cabinet, to look into the circumstances that have led to a massive explosion at a naval base, which killed 13 people and injured dozens.
As he previously stated, the report of the commission will be concluded by September 30, submitted before the Cabinet and become public, according to a relevant decision taken by the Cabinet.
The Head of the Commission said that President Christofias` testimony had been completed “so now we can proceed to the final stage of this process , with a view to be completed around 15 – 16 September, and enable me to start writing my final report”.
