Red’s win Christos Petrides (KOPA) Seven a side Tournament
KOPA kicked off last Sunday with a great opening. The weather held out for most of the day for the Christos Petrides (KOPA) Seven a side tournament that was held at Bullsmoor Lane Enfield.
It was a great fun day with loads of supporters turning up to watch the game.
Omonia FC were on hand with their big barbecue making lovely kebabs for us to enjoy.
20 clubs took part who were split into four groups of five and the winners and runners up of each group went into the Quarter Finals.
There was a couple of shock scores, one that stood out was lowly Pendayia defeating mighty New Salamis 2-1 in the group stages and both these teams were level on 7 points at the end of the group stage but New Salamis went through on goal average.
Arachne were the draw specialists drawing every game in their group.
What I also noticed was that there has been alot of movement of players from club to club and the quality of football was of a high standard.
The Final had everyone on edge with both New Salamis and Tripimeni giving it all and it had to go to penalties to decide the winner. In the nail biting finish New Salamis came out on top.
Quarter Finals
Aradippou 1 Apoel 1 (Aradippou won on penalties)
Rizokarpasso 0 Brotherhood 1
Tripimeni 2 Dynamo 0
Cetinkaya Cinar 0 New Salamis 0 ( New Salamis won on penalties).
Semi Finals
Aradippou 0 New Salamis 2
Brotherhood 0 Tripimeni 2
Final
New Salamis 0 Tripimeni 0 (New Salamis won on penalties).
At the end of the tournament the cups and medals were presented to the winners and runners up. Michael Yiakoumi the General Secretary gave a brief speech thanking and congratulating all the teams for a great tournament and reminded the gathering about the what the tournament was about and the late Christos Petrides the former Omonia Chairman and his loyal services that he gave to Omonia and KOPA.
It was then left for the wife of the late Christos Petrides, Pantelitsa to present the runners up trophy to the manager of Tripimeni Steve Sinotti and the winning trophy to the captain of the winning team New Salamis Douggie Morton.
