Deputy Government Spokesman Christos Christofides said on Tuesday that “no solution to the Cyprus problem is possible, without the return of Morphou under Greek Cypriot rule”.

Christofides was speaking to the press after meeting the Mayor of the Turkish occupied municipality of Morphou, Charalambos Pittas who handed over a resolution against occupation, on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the occupation of the city by the advancing Turkish troops, on August 16, 1974.

Christofides expressed his gratitude to the Mayor and all the members of the Municipal Council for all the efforts towards the unification of the country and its people and the solution based on principles.

“We stressed once again President’s basic position that no solution is possible without the return of Morphou under Greek Cypriot rule”, he noted, adding that “this is a fundamental precondition that was always put forward in the talks for the solution of the Cyprus problem”.
