The issue of missing persons is a sensitive one that must be solved, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Sophocles Aletraris said on Sunday, noting that the Government continues efforts to determine the fate of all missing persons and ease the pain of their families.

Speaking at a memorial service for the missing persons and those killed during the 1974 Turkish invasion of the island, from the community of Eptakomi of Famagusta, Aletraris said that “we must never forget that Cyprus is still partially under occupation and that the struggles and sacrifices of our people have not reached justification.“

Aletraris said the aim was to reunify the island through a peaceful, viable, functional and just solution, securing the peaceful coexistence of the people, Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites and Latins, based on international law, UN resolutions, and the principles and values of the EU.

He reaffirmed the Government`s commitment to continue the struggle for a solution of the Cyprus problem, noting that “we cannot abandon the effort, we cannot abandon the struggle for freedom and the reunification of our homeland.“
