Kingsbury Greek School Receives Award
Last month the Kingsbury Greek School in North West London was very proud to be awarded the Bronze Award in the Quality Framework for Supplementary Schools. Mr Andreas Soteriou and Mrs Annie Mina were at the Brent Staff Development Centre to represent the school and to receive the award.
To obtain this award the school had to meet certain standards and provide amongst other evidence, its statement of aims, an equal opportunities policy, policies for health and safety and child protection, financial rules, risk assessments, and CRB checks on all volunteers and teachers. There was also a Mentor visit from the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education. The Mentor, Akhita Benjamin spoke to committee members, the pupils and the teachers and observed lessons. She was impressed with the lessons and the learning which was taking place. She wrote a very positive report on her observations.
This school is one of 190 who have achieved the Bronze Award out of 5,000 supplementary schools in England so far. Its very successful school committee, the Association of Cypriots Brent and Harrow, is run by volunteers who through their constant hard work, raise funds to help run the school at the Kingsbury High School site in Princes Avenue in Kingsbury every Saturday morning.
The School operates an Equal opportunities policy and welcomes children from all nationalities and faiths who are interested in learning Greek. The school also operates a very successful adult class on Saturday mornings. Enrolment for the new academic year begins on Saturday 10th September.
