Pole vault champion Nicole Kyriakopoulou has broken the national record twice within a week, taking it to 4.71 metres in London on Friday.
The 25-year-old, who has qualified for this month’s World Championship in South Korea, cleared 4.70 m. in the national championship in Athens in end-July, and promised in tears to do even better very soon.
At the IAAF Diamond League final in London Kyriakopoulou did just that. She registered the sixth best performance in the world this year clearing 4.71 m. with the third effort, to finish fourth.
In the women’s triple jump Voula Papachristou also finished fourth, but her best effort at 14.17 m. was far behind her personal best of 14.72 m.
