Deputy Sales Director and Acting Spokesman for the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) Ioannis Tsouloftas said that on Tuesday 40 out of the 60 MW produced by generators from US company Energy International will be available.

He also said that there was nothing to announce regarding the purchase of electricity from the northern Turkish occupied areas of the Republic, to cover the needs in power after the island`s main power station was rendered inoperable from the shockwave of an explosion of munitions, noting that the EAC was ready to proceed but was waiting for a political decision.

In statements to CNA regarding the modular generators, Tsouloftas said that they were successfully tested on Monday night and that 40 MW would be available on Tuesday. He added that these generators had been provided by Energy International and had arrived from Oman, in the first shipment of generators of a total capacity of 60 MW.

“The first generators were of a capacity of 60 MW, they were sent to Dhekelia, the trial connection of 40 MW took place last night, and very soon the 60 MW will be available in Dhekelia. Regarding the others of a capacity of 35 MW and which have been installed at Moni, they are expected to become available next week,“ he said.
