Manchester United Managers Sir Alex Ferguson’s son Darren Ferguson ( got his first win of the season with the aid of Cypriot origin Nick Ajose (pictured below) who played up front for Peterborough. He is a recent signing from Manchester United .  The Eagles went ahead in the first half after the Posh defence dithered to allow Sean Scannell to prod the ball past Paul Jones and into an empty net.

But Ferguson’s half-time team talk did the trick as captain Grant McCann levelled with a well-taken volley from the edge of the penalty area.

And the hosts secured three points on the opening day when substitute David Ball headed in Mark Little’s cross with 17 minutes remaining.

“Result-wise it was the perfect start,” Ferguson told the club’s official website.

“And it was a good performance when we increased the tempo, which we needed to do in the second half.

“I said at half-time we needed to keep our discipline and up the tempo, which we did, and that someone has got to take a chance – and Macca has got us back in the game.

“I have to say I thought it was thoroughly deserved.”

Posh, who were promoted via the League One play-offs last season, have been tipped to struggle this term but Ferguson is quietly confident about their chances.

“The performance was good, credit to the players, when we play with energy and play the football we did today we are a decent team,” he added.

“We’re not getting carried away. I didn’t feel it was a surprising performance because I know what we are capable of. But one thing it will do is lift everyone, the town and the fans, because everyone was a little bit sceptical.

“It was important to get three points, and certainly to not get beaten.

“I think we’ll need 17 wins and we’ve got one, so we only need 16 now!”
