High temperatures are expected to prevail on Tuesday in cities all over Cyprus, with conditions of severe discomfort set to continue and even evolve, according to the Meteorological Service, to heat wave conditions in some cases. Meteorological Officer Marios Theophilou, speaking to CNA, said that temperatures inland are expected to reach 40-41oC during the afternoon. He added that Monday’s unpleasant climate conditions are expected to continue today. Theophilou said that Cyprus was one step before reaching heat wave conditions on Monday, due to a combination of high temperatures, humidity and wind conditions. Monday’s temperatures ranged between 39,2oC (in Nicosia) and 29,2oC (in Paphos), while humidity levels varied between 81% (in Paphos) and 16% (in Nicosia). While temperature levels are high, Theophilou noted that it cannot be said that they constitute record levels, like the ones recorded early on August last year, with the temperature in Nicosia reaching 46oC.
