along other Commonwealth countries, will take part in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), to be held in Perth, Australia, from October 28 to 30.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Heads of Government Meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers, on October 26 and 27, while several parallel meetings will be conducted in the margins of CHOGM.

According to the hosting country’s website, the official theme for the 2011 CHOGM will be “Building National Resilience, Building Global Resilience”.

It is added that Australia, as the meeting’s host, will seek to strengthen the Commonwealth’s effectiveness in supporting democracy, the rule of law and good governance amongst the Commonwealth membership, thereby strengthening national resilience within member states.

Moreover, it is noted that Australia will use the meeting to address challenges of food security, sustainable development and natural resource management.

Global challenges, including the promotion of strong, sustainable and balanced economic growth, recovery from the global financial crisis, and climate change, will be also addressed by Commonwealth leaders.

Australia is chairing the Commonwealth for the next two years. The Meeting will bring together leaders from over 50 Commonwealth nations and up to 3.000 delegates.

Every two years, Commonwealth leaders meet at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to discuss global and Commonwealth issues, and to agree on collective policies and initiatives.
