Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has reaffirmed the Greek government’s steady support for a Cyprus solution.

Addressing a seminar for Greek Ambassadors, on Thursday, Papandreou said Greece remains a steady supporter of the Republic of Cyprus “in an effort to find a just, viable and functional solution, on the basis of UN resolutions and the acquis communautaire”.

Commenting on recent statements by Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan on Cyprus, Papandreou expressed his support to the Cypriot government.

“We condemn all kinds of blackmailing practices that follow the logic of an ultimatum, and any attempt to link the political problem of Cyprus to the performance of its institutional functions, to which Cyprus is entitled as a member state of the EU” Papandreou said.
