Lawyer Polys Polyviou, who has been appointed by the Council of Ministers to carry out investigations into the explosion of munitions at the Evangelos Florakis Naval Base on July 11, was sworn in on Thursday before Minister of Justice and Public Order Loucas Louca.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Attorney General Petros Clerides and former Police explosives expert Antonis Shakallis, who was appointed by Polyviou to assist in the investigations.

In statements after the ceremony, Polyviou said he would be starting work immediately, noting that over the past few days he has been studying reports but official work begins now.

He added that his work would not interfere in Police investigations in any way and that he would be working through the summer in an effort to conclude his report by the end of September
