Number of male and female persons employed in Cyprus in 2010, stood at 82.5 % and 68.5% respectively, with both rates being among the highest in the European Union, according to the “Labour Force Survey”, published by the Statistical Service.

In general, the number of persons employed, aged 20-64, reached 385.093 and the employment rate was 75.4%.

However, the unemployment rate amounted to 6.2% of the labour force, which was lower for males 6% and higher for females 6.4%. The highest rate of unemployment was observed among young persons below 25 years of age and accounted for 16.7% of the labour force of the same age group.

The labour force (i.e. the employed and unemployed persons) amounted to 410.465 persons in 2010, consisting of 54.6% men and 45.4% women.
