Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych have examined ways to further enhance the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Ukraine in all fields. The two Presidents held a meeting on Monday in Kiev, in the framework of the two day official visit of President Christofias to Ukraine.

According to an official announcement, President Christofias and the Members of the Cyprus delegation were officially welcomed in the Presidential Palace. After the welcome ceremony, the two Presidents had a tet-a-tet meeting, followed by official talks between the delegations of the two countries.

President Yanukovych said that President Christofias’ visit to Ukraine will open a new chapter in the multilevel bilateral relations between Cyprus and Ukraine.

“We appreciate the decision of the Cyprus Government to open an Embassy to Kiev, which proves your interest in further developing of the cooperation between the two countries”, Yanukovych said.

He also noted that his country would like to further develop the cooperation in fields of mutual interest and especially in the fields of commerce and economy. “Our countries have great opportunities which we have to commonly exploit”, he added.

He also suggested directions to be given to Government Services of the two countries, in order to set a date and the agenda for a meeting of Ministerial Committees. Those Committees, as he said, would examine ways to enhance the cooperation between Cyprus and Ukraine on economy, industry and commerce.
