Marcos came through a testing encounter on Sunday in Sofia to maintain Cyprus’ status in the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Group II. The Cypriot No. 1 held off spirited resistance from Bulgaria’s Dimitar Kutrovsky to defeat the World No. 578 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3), 7-5.

Marcos won all three of the rubbers he played over the weekend to guide Cyprus to an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the tie. Bulgaria gained some consolation in the fifth and final rubber as Dimitar Kuzmanov beat Christopher Koutrouzas 6-2, 6-1.

His three victories this weekend, including one in Saturday’s doubles rubber, took Marcos to a 57-13 Davis Cup record.
