President of the House of Representatives Yiannakis Omirou said Sunday that the continuing Turkish intransigence leads to stagnation and deadlock of the negotiation process aiming at finding a comprehensive solution in the Cyprus problem.

Omirou urged those who are interested in reaching a just and viable solution of the Cyprus problem, to exert pressure on the occupying power, which is Turkey.

Addressing the national memorial service for the hero of the Republic Christos Nikos Solomou, held at the church of St. Raphael in Pachyammos, in the Pafos district, on the northwestern coast of Cyprus, Omirou stressed the need for the implementation of International and European Law on Cyprus.

“It is time to declare and persist, without wavering, that the Cyprus issue constitutes a case of an illegal invasion and occupation of an independent state by an other country, Turkey. And to point out that those who are really interested in reaching a just and viable solution should shift their interest, influence and pressure on the occupying power, “he said.
