Cyprus President Demetris Christofias departs on Sunday for Ukraine, for a two-day official visit, where he is expected to sign bilateral agreements and inaugurate the new Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Kiev.

According to an official announcement, the President will be accompanied by his wife Elsie Christofias. During the first day of his visit he will attend talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovich., where the two sides will sign a series of Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries.

Afterwards, President Christofias will meet with acting Prime Minister Andriy Klyuyev and the President of the Ukrainian Parliament Volodymyr Lytvyn. Later, it is added, the President will inaugurate the Embassy of the Republic in Kiev.

According to the announcement, the President will attend and address a Business Forum, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, in the presence of businessmen from both Cyprus and the Ukraine, while later he will attend an official dinner in his honor, to be hosted by President Yanukovich.

During the second day of the visit, President Christofias will depart from Kiev to Mariupol, where he will meet the Mayor of the city Khotlubey Yuriy. During a special ceremony at the University of Mariupol, the President will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy.

During his visit in Ukraine, President Christofias will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou, Presidential Commissioner Giorgos Iacovou, the Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry Nikos Emiliou, Cypriot Ambassador to Ukraine Evagoras Vryonides and other officials.

On Tuesday, July 5, President Christofias will depart from Mariupol to Geneva, the announcement concludes.
