HIGH Jump star Kyriakos Ioannou cleared 2.31m to set a new Pancyprian Games record at the Tsirion Stadium in Limassol over the weekend.

After ensuring first place, Ioannou attacked his personal best and the national record of 2.35m but his heels clipped the bar, set at 2.36m, on all three attempts.

However, the crowd were more than pleased with his efforts as he received a standing ovation.

“Thank you all for your support. I wanted to do my best in my home country, but unfortunately I could not get the new national record. I hope I will do this on July 8 at the Diamond League meeting in Paris,” Ioannou said.
