There can be no enforced solution to the Cyprus issue since what was agreed with the UN is that a solution will ensue through negotiations, said Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou.

He was answering questions at the end of the Cabinet meeting, regarding statements by the so called foreign minister in the Turkish occupied north, that because UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will seek reelection, a solution to the Cyprus issue will be enforced.

Stephanou said that such statements are not valid, adding that any mutually acceptable solution will ensue through the negotiations, and will not be the result of mediation and will be subjected to two separate and simultaneous referenda in the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities.
