The “Grand Road Safety Project” was inaugurated on Wednesday by Minister of Communications and Works Erato Kozakou Marcoullis, with the aim of making Cyprus the safest holiday destination in the Eastern Mediterranean in terms of road safety, for local people and prospective tourists alike.

The project, termed as the biggest road safety project in the region, was being launched today, during a special ceremony in Nicosia, by “Click” newspaper in cooperation with the Youth Organization for Road Safety “Reaction”, the Road Safety Council and Cyprus Tourism Organization.

The duration of the project is from June 1st to August 31st and it will include information campaigns and televised spots, promoting road safety. According to the organizers, more than one million brochures in various languages will be distributed to tourists and locals, while televised spots and billboard advertisements will also be employed to display messages.

Marcoullis noted in her address speech that road safety is a complex issue, adding that in order to prevent accidents, proper roads and vehicles are necessary, but, as she noted, above all the proper and responsible conduct from all people using the roads is required.
