Advisors to the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, namely George Iacovou and Kudret Ozersai, will have dinner on Wednesday in the presence of Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations on Cyprus, Alexander Downer, a UN source told the Cyprus News Agency.

The dinner will take place at a restaurant in the UN-patrolled buffer zone in Nicosia.

According to the same source, it is a combination of a social and working dinner, adding that such meetings took place in the past as well.

He made it clear that it is not an official dinner that’s why no media coverage arrangements have been made.

However, he concluded, the media will not be prevented from covering the event.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. The leaders of the two communities are currently engaged in UN-led direct negotiations with an aim to reunify the island.
