The rate of inflation in Cyprus for May 2011 rose to 3.9% compared to 3.3% in April 2011. According to the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus, the Consumer Price Index for May 2011 increased by 0.58 units or 0.50% to 117.04 units compared to 116.46 in April 2011.

This is mainly due to increases in the prices of certain fresh fruit, electricity and certain clothing and footwear items. Decreases have been recorded in the prices of fresh meat, certain fresh vegetables and purchase of motor cars.

The rate of increase of the Index, and therefore the rate of inflation, for May 2011 rose to 3.9% compared to 3.3% in April 2011 and 1.6% in May 2010.

For the period January-May 2011, the CPI recorded an increase of 3.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
