After a terrible start to the Super League play-offs, Panathinaikos have taken top spot with one game to go thanks to a 1-0 win over PAOK on Sunday, while AEK slipped up at Olympiakos Volou.

Both games were decided by a single goal, meaning that the Greens are top on 10 points, PAOK are second on nine, AEK third on eight and Olympiakos Volou in last place on six.

This means that the final game between Panathinaikos and AEK is likely to decide who will enter the qualifying stages of the Champions League. A win for the Greens would secure their return to the tournament but victory for the Yellows could see them back in the big team.

The final outcome will also depend on whether PAOK beat Olympiakos Volou in their last game. If AEK and Panathinaikos were to draw, the Thessaloniki club would grab top spot with a victory.

On Sunday, Panathinaikos had to wait until the 74th minute to get their goal. PAOK goalkeeper Costas Chalkias spilled a Djibril Cisse shot into the path of Gilberto Silva, who slotted the ball home. Replays showed that he was marginally offside.

Silva celebrated the goal in what could be his last game for Greens.

PAOK pushed hard in the last quarter of an hour but failed to equalize, with Stefanos Athanasiadis missing a good chance.

AEK lost 1-0 at the Panthessaliko Stadium after conceding a late goal from Slovak defender Peter Dolezaj.
