Cyprus can achieve the EU target for the Renewable Source of Energy prior to 2020, Cyprus Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides has said.

Speaking in the framework of the 3rd International Conference for the Renewable Sources of Energy, Paschalides said that he is optimistic that Cyprus will achieve the target of the EU by the year 2020, when 13% of the energy will come from renewable sources. “We feel that we can achieve that target prior to 2020”, he said.

He also said that the Government has recently announced the national plans regarding the Renewable Sources of Energy, adding that the effort will continue in order to reach the EU target and help protect the environment.

He added that, based on data, Cyprus has made huge steps in the field of the Renewable Sources of Energy and Green Power, noting that few years ago, Cyprus was in a bad level on that issue.
