HEALTH MINISTER – PRESIDENT OF THE WHO 64TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
 
Cypriot Minister of Health Christos Patsalides was elected Monday as President of the 64th General Assembly of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for 2011 – 2012.The 64th session of the World Health Assembly takes place in Geneva between 16–24 May 2011 with the participation of Health Ministers from 193 countries and other organisations.

Addressing the Assembly after his election, the Cypriot Minister reassured to do his utmost so that the 64th General Assembly is crowned with success, saying that the Assembly will focus on world health issues.

Noting that health issues “know no borders”, he gave as an example the H1N1 virus, which spread in 120 countries in less than eight weeks.
