The President of the Republic Demetris Christofias has stressed that he is making tireless efforts to prevent any violation of the agreed procedure or the agreed principles for a solution of the Cyprus problem. In a speech at the inauguration ceremony of the Armenian Cultural Center, in the coastal town of Larnaca, President Christofias said that the objective is to free Cyprus from the Turkish occupation and reunite the island so that all Cypriot citizens – Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites and Latins – can live together under conditions of peace. “I want to send a clear message, in Cyprus and abroad. We are working tirelessly to achieve the right solution the soonest possible. We are working just as hard to avert any approaches which could aim either at violating the agreed procedure or at violating the agreed principles of a solution,” he stressed, pointing out that “such approaches would lead to a new stalemate”. Describing any possible partition of Cyprus “as a disaster for our country and our people”, he assured that “we continue to work with all our strength to reach a just, viable and functional solution”.
