President Christofias declared Wednesday the launch of the “Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020,” stressing that the number of road victims in 2010 in Cyprus has been the lowest since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960.
Speaking at an event, organised at the Presidential Palace for the “Decade of Action for Road Safety”, President Christofias urged all competent authorities and services of the Cypriot state to set road safety as their priority.
”Today, the whole planet declares the launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
Referring to Cyprus’ Road Safety Strategic Plan 2005 – 2010, he said that it met its goals, which were to reduce by 50%, (compared to the period 1999 – 2003), road victims as well as road injuries.
”We have succeeded in reducing the number of road victims by 41.7% and the number of road injuries by 50.4%”, he stressed.
