The international community as well as both communities in Cyprus are well aware of President Demetris Christofias’ efforts to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem the soonest possible, Acting Government Spokesman Christos Christofides has stressed.

Invited to comment on statement by former Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat who claimed that President Christofias is satisfied with the lack of solution in Cyprus, Christofides recalled President Christofias’ efforts and initiatives at the negotiating table for a political settlement.

He went on to say that Turkey and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu follow an intransigent stance on the Cyprus issue, which does not allow progress to be achieved at the negotiations.

“The international community as well as the two communities in Cyprus are well aware of the fact that President Christofias is working for a solution of the Cyprus problem the soonest possible”, he pointed out. Cyprus’ de facto partition by Turkish troops is a burden on the people of Cyprus, who are the ones who suffer under the occupation, Christofides went on to say.
