The Police Head Quarters Press office have released a press statement saying that a Police officer serving in Larnaca district has been suspended accused of stealing money from a prisoner.

The 38-year-old policeman who served at Larnaca police headquarters was arrested after being accused of stealing €227 from a detainee.

According to police spokeswoman Nicoletta Tyrimou, police have information that the officer in question was given a sum of money by a detainee on February 17 to pass on to his lawyer, from which the 38-year-old allegedly took €227.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old has already been on suspension since February 23 in connection with other charges being investigated against him involving the possession of a harmful spray and causing a disturbance.
