George P. Georgiades, age 97, of Flushing, New York passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. George was born June 28, 1923.
George Georgiades was born in the Village of “Hartzia” on the island of Cyprus on June 28, 1923. He fell asleep only three weeks before his 98th birthday. Cyprus was a majority Greek island and a British Crown Colony at that time. He joined the famed “Cyprus Regiment” during WW II and served in Italy in the British Eighth Army where he was awarded many decorations for bravery including in the Battle of Monte Cassino. After the war, he emigrated (legally) to America in 1947, where he met Fotini Dimitrou, also from Cyprus, and Married in 1952. They had two children, Tasos and Christine. He worked as a Brick Mason for 40 years before he retired in 1980 where he took a new position in the St. Bernard’s Boys School as a custodian for another 10 years.

He is survived by his children, three Grand Children, and eight great-grandchildren.

His burial will occur Monday, June 14, 2021, at 12:00 AM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Grand Ave., Maspeth, New York 11378. A funeral service will occur Monday, June 14, 2021, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Nicholas G.O. Church, Northern Blvd. and 196th Street, Flushing, NY 11358. An interment will occur Monday, June 14, 2021, from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 6540 Grand Avenue, Maspeth, NY 11378.
