Parikiaki is supporting George Makrides of Southgate who has taken up the challenge of completing the 2021 London marathon to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.
George has already started his rigorous training regime, ahead of the marathon on Sunday 3 October 2021, and aims to raise more than £2,000 by the end of July.
George said: “I have decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society because my family has been personally touched by the devastating consequences of dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society do fantastic work to support anyone affected by the disease. It’s great to think that I will be raising funds to help support people living with dementia now and to fund research to one day find a cure.”
George’s wife, Elena Makrides, the director of two local care homes caring for older people with dementia, Autumn Gardens and Anastasia Lodge, said: “I am especially proud of George for committing to this cause. Looking after a loved one with dementia is tough and the recent lockdowns have put a lot of pressure on local families. Raising awareness of the disease really helps people to understand and come to terms with a diagnosis.”
