Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades is meeting with Greek Premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis at 10.30 (local time) in Athens on Wednesday, to consult ahead of the Geneva meeting next week.

Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios said in a written statement that the meeting is taking place for coordination, in view of the informal conference on Cyprus between April 27 and 29 in Geneva, convened by the UN Secretary General.

Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, Government Spokesman, Ambassador of the Republic to Athens Kyriakos Kenevezos and Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Kyriakos Kouros will also attend the meeting in Athens.

President Anastasiades will return to Cyprus on the same day.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The UN Secretary-General invited all parties involved to attend an informal five-plus-one meeting on the Cyprus issue in Geneva, Switzerland, from 27 to 29 April 2021.
