New measures come into force in Limassol on Sunday for a period of two weeks in an attempt to contain COVID-19, following a surge in the cases. The Health Minister said that figures show that 70% of the cases of the past few days are detected in Limassol.

The Advisory Epidemiological Committee met today at the Presidential Palace, in the presence of Health Minister and four other Ministers and assessed the situation. President Anastasiades chaired the meeting.
 
Minister Constantinos Ioannou told the press after the meeting that all the measures that were in place for the districts of Nicosia and Limassol, are extended to other districts for a period of two weeks. A decree will be issued for the new measures.
These measures are as follows:Individuals are permitted to attend gatherings in houses and public meeting areas, with the exception of catering places, not exceeding a maximum number of 10 persons per house/group, including underage children.Mass attendance and other forms of religious worship in churches, mosques and other religious places, as well as religious ceremonies, shall be performed with a maximum number of 75 persons, subject to the protocols in force for places of religious worship.The holding of matches in the sports venues of Nicosia and Limassol Districts in the context of athletic championships, is allowed without the presence of spectators, provided that the relevant protocols are observed.The maximum number of persons allowed to be served in catering establishments in Nicosia and Limassol Districts is set at 75 for indoor spaces and 150 for outdoor spaces.The functioning of cinemas, theatres and performance halls is allowed with a maximum number of 75 persons in indoor spaces and 150 persons in outdoor spaces, subject to the guidelines and protocols in each case.Cocktail parties and well-wishing at weddings and christenings is prohibited. Physical presence is only allowed at lunch or dinner, with a maximum number of 350 attending persons. 
Moreover, the Health Minister said that all citizens who are over 60 or have any impairment will have priority in their shopping at supermarkets and visits to the pharmacy between 8-9 am local time. He also recalled that there are limits in the visits at retirement homes, hospitals and clinics.

For Limassol the Minister said that all places that provide food services will close at 1030 pm and all citizens are advised to limit their movement to no later than 1130pm. He clarified that this is an advise and not a ban in movement but underlined that the situation is under assessment and if needed additional measures will be taken.
The advice for the movement comes into force tomorrow for a week (26/10).
 
The Minister called again on all citizens to follow the measures and act responsibly.
