Islington Council has successfully bid for £826,000 of funding to support its work with rough sleepers.

The funding will support 93 units of accommodation, including for people with very complex needs; access to emergency accommodation, and funding for support workers.

Also the North London Housing Partnership, hosted by Islington Council, was awarded £530,000 to support work with rough sleepers across the six boroughs in the North London region.  This will provide emergency accommodation for rough sleepers across the six boroughs over the winter and also fund specialist immigration advice to help EEA nationals to access employment and apply for Settled Status in the UK.

Cllr Diarmaid Ward, Islington Council’s executive member for housing and development, said: “We’re committed to preventing homelessness and providing decent homes as we work to make Islington a fairer place.

“There are far too many people in Islington in desperate need of a home and we will do everything we can to help and support rough sleepers into accommodation.

“We’re very pleased that our bid for much-needed funding to support rough sleepers has been successful – this will mean we can help many more rough sleepers in Islington.  The Government must continue to give the funding we need to help homeless people through the winter months and the Covid-19 crisis.”

The successful funding bids to the Ministry of Housing, Community and Local Government were announced on Thursday.
