Seven new COVID-19 cases were detected in Cyprus after conducting 3,039 laboratory tests, authorities announced on Friday. This brings the total number of cases detected in Cyprus to 1,565.

An announcement by the Ministry of Health says that three positive cases were detected after testing 105 samples in the framework of contact tracing, another three cases were found after 772 people tested on their private initiative and one case was detected after testing 170 samples at the Microbiology Labs of General Hospitals.

No cases were detected after testing 1,384 samples from passengers, 48 samples from people hosted at immigrant reception centers, and 123 samples taken in the framework of a program aiming to test people aged 18-40 in congested areas. Moreover, 52 laboratory tests made in the context of referrals by General Practitioners, one test for people working in Courts and 384 tests in the framework of a program to check pupils, teachers and school staff also turned out negative.

The Ministry also said that six patients are treated at Famagusta General Hospital, one of them at the Increased Care Unit. One more person is hospitalized at the Nicosia General Hospital ICU but is not connected to a ventilator.
