Presidential Commissioner Photis Photiou discussed about the COVID-19 pandemic in relation to Cyprus’ expatriates during a videoconference with members of the Central Council of NEPOMAK (Youth of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots).

According to a press release, the discussion revolved around the annual programs of young people of diaspora visiting Cyprus every summer, which will not take place this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic and will be replaced with an online training programme.

The online programme will be divided in two parts. The first part will consist of distance learning Greek language courses, modern history of Cyprus, a lecture on “Linguistic History of Cyprus” as well as teaching traditional dances and will be held in cooperation with the University of Cyprus and the University of Nicosia.

The second part of the programme will cover the history, culture, tradition and customs of Cyprus, as well as various landscapes of Cyprus, through videos that will be shown on the youtube channel of the Office of the Presidential Commissioner. The representatives of the leadership of NEPOMAK welcomed this action and thanked the Presidential Commissioner.

During the videoconference a discussion was also hed about the form that the planned conference of NEPOMAK will take this summer, given the pandemic and the problems that arise for its realization. The leadership of NEPOMAK suggested holding a full-day videoconfernce around the end of July.
