Another COVID-19 patient has died in Cyprus authorities announced on Saturday. At the same time no new SARS-CoV-2 cases were confirmed from a total of 2,054 tests and therefore the number of confirmed cases remains at 960.

According to a press release issued by the Health Ministry, the patient who died was treated at Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Care Unit and passed away on Friday night. It is a 68-year-old man who was facing health problems. His death was caused by COVID-19. The total number of people positive to SARS-CoV-2 who have died is now 25. COVID-19 is the cause of death for 18 of them. Twelve of them are men and six women, with their average age being 71 years old.

With regard to the 2,054 tests it is noted that 393 of them were carried out in the framework of the programme for testing 10,000 employees at hair salons, barber shops, beauty parlors, tattoo studios and restaurants.

A total of 1,324 people were tested in the framework of the programme for testing 20,000 pupils and school employees while one test was carried out in the framework of the programme for testing 20,000 employees at the retail sector and at construction sites.

Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals carried out 117 tests while no test was concluded for repatriated people. One hundred sixty-five tests were conducted at the private initiative while there were results for 11 samples tested in the framework of the programme for people referred to by their Personal Doctors andts for special groups tested through the Public Health Centres.

Forty-three tests were carried out in the framework of the process for tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases.

Four persons were still hospitalized at the Reference Hospital, which is the Famagusta General Hospital, until Saturday afternoon. Moreover, four patients were on ventilators at the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

According to data published by the Health Ministry, 808 patients (86.5%) recovered until June 4, while 32 (3.3%) have been treated at the Intensive Care Units. A total of 14,296.4 tests have been carried out per 100,000 population.
