New Twilight book Midnight Sun to be published in August

A new instalment in the Twilight series of books is due to be released in August, the series’ author has said.

Midnight Sun will hit bookshelves on the 4 August, and will tell the original story from the point of view of Edward Cullen – the vampire who is in love with a human, Bella Swann.

The books were made it into blockbuster films starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and grossed billions of dollars globally.

Author Stephanie Meyer said: “I am very excited to finally, finally announce the release of Midnight Sun on 4 August. It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure if this was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long. It didn’t seem fair to make you wait anymore.

“Sorry about the bad timing. Hopefully this book can be a distraction from the real world. I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with you.”

It is the first release in the series since 2008, when Breaking Dawn was published. That year, an early manuscript for Midnight Sun was leaked online.

Meyer has since made those chapters available for free, but will now release the book in full.

She said the book will serve as a “companion novel” to the series.

Fans had been speculating about Midnight Sun after a mysterious countdown clock appeared on Meyer’s website.

Her previous Twilight books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.
