The High Commissioner of Cyprus in Australia Martha Mavrommatis sends a message to the UK Cypriots and Cypriots who are suffering from the covid19 pandemicnot matter whether you are in need or not this was a wonderful gesture by the John And Yiannis Christodoulou Foundation on helping UK Cypriots and Cypriot Medical staff in hospitals all over Cyprus.
So proud of our community all over the world who have supported each other
.Also the Cyprus  government has sent medication to stranded Cypriots / PR here in Australia. They  are in contact with all the Cypriots and PR stranded in Australia ( in NZ they have all left) .
This year was a very tough year says the High Commissioner . “We had Bush  fires end of 2019 and they continued up to mid February. It was devastating . We had to close the High Commission  for a few days as the smoke was unbearable in Canberra and we relocated and worked from  Sydney ( this was already a blow to the economy) .
We had state of emergency.
Also we are thankful to the Australian government that took a timely measure to tackle the covid 19 and therefore the spread was contained .
Would also like to thank and congratulate all our colleagues in Cyprus at the National crisis centre at the Ministry-of Foreign affaires for the tireless efforts in repatriating and assisting all Cypriots and PR of Cyprus stranded abroad .
But really Im blessed to be serving my country in Australia where we have a wonderful community always supporting Cyprus and our struggle to end the Turkish occupation  and reunify our country ( many came here after the 1974 war they had to be refugees to be granted a immigrant visa ) and ready and willing to assist in any way they can .
