It is with great sadness that  Constantinos Georgiou passed away on Sunday 12th April 2020 with suspected Covid-19.
He leaves behind his dearly loved wife Photou (Fay) Georgiou his daughters Rita and Andrea. Son in laws Demetri and Andros, grandchildren Costa, Yianni, Phodi, Jason, Philippos, Fodoulla Fay and Lydia and great grandson Oscar.
Constantinos was born in Dromolaxia Larnaca Cyprus in 1941, the first born of his mother Margarita and father Georgios. He was the eldest of 6 siblings – Stavraki, Eleni, Gregory, Kalitsa and Yiannaki. From a young age his love and passion were books and learning. He would break into the village school to ‘borrow’ a book and then break back in to return it! He had a gift of intelligence and knowledge which led him to a scholarship to the American Academy in Larnaca.
At the age of 16 he left Cyprus for a new life in England. He married in 1961 and had two daughters Rita and Andrea. As well as reading books, he was hands on with DIY and would try and fix almost anything that broke! He liked playing tricks on people and would always make people laugh with his hysterical stories. He was a big Elvis fan and would tell us that he once went to the cinema to watch King Creole and would just stay there all day watching it. He would buy the most expensive and stylish clothes and accompany them with a smart hat and always with a cigarette dangling from his mouth!
He had many different jobs throughout his life; working as a waiter, security at Walls factory as well as working for the London Underground. In the 1980’s he opened up a greengrocer shop in Edmonton. He was a well-respected man in the community and enjoyed to chat and make jokes with all his customers.
He was later diagnosed with hydrocephalus which affected his walking and after having a shunt he seemed to be on the mend. However due to a fall he developed a haematoma which completely changed his life and bought on dementia. He eventually needed 24hour care.He spent the last few years at Hugh Myddelton nursing home and received the best one to one care. In March 2020 however he became unwell and due to Covid-19 where his family were unable to visit him. He deteriorated very quickly and took his last breaths on Easter Sunday. The family said “they had some amazing carers that loved and looked after him and we will be eternally grateful to them. They held his hand and were with him when we were not allowed.
We love and miss you very much Dad. God has gained another angel along with your beloved granddaughter Andrea”.Due to the current pandemic there will be a private funeral limited only to immediate family members. Instead of flowers we would like to raise money for the wonderful and amazing one to one carers that  loved and looked after our dad.  They  were the link that constantly kept  us updated with pictures,  videos,  face time calls when we couldn’t  be with him.  They put themselves at risk everyday  by going to work to care for our father and did everything possible to keep him safe, fed,  clean and comfortable.
These are our superheroes and deserve so much more than the pay they get. Please help us to  support them and give them the  acknowledgement they deserve.
