Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a man in Walthamstow have named the victim.

Police were called at 22:55hrs on Tuesday, 31 March, to a seriously injured male in Alexandra Road, E17.

Officers attended along with ambulance colleagues. Despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Though formal identification awaits, he has been named as 35-year-old Tomas Macionis, who was originally from Lithuania but lived in Walthamstow.

His family have been informed.

A post-mortem examination held today, 1 April, at Queens Road Mortuary, gave cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken into police custody.

The investigation is being led by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.
