Make Visors – Save Lives
The shortage of PPE amongst NHS staff has been well documented and one London based form of Solicitors are trying to do something about it.
YVA Solicitors have started an initiative under the banner, Make Visors – Save Lives.
“We wanted to do something to help our NHS but had no idea what someone could do whilst working from home,” said YVA Partner, Nick Kephalas. “I have a good friend in Dr Loucas Christodoulou who is a consultant paediatrician at Northwick Park Hospital (pictured). “He explained that he and his family had been making home made medical visors”, recalled Kephalas, “Loucas then sent a quick guide and with a small investment and help from family, they managed to produce 100 visors very simply.”
Dr Loucas delivered the first batch to Northwick Park and Barnet General Hospitals who were extremely grateful, requests for more visors came in at which point , the partners of YVA Solicitors got involved: “ As a firm, YVA proceeded to purchase materials in bulk to mass produce medical visors. The intention was for us and our staff to make them,” explains Nick, “however from there, the demand snowballed and the requests from our friends and families, staff, clients and people unknown to us, who found our cause on social media and wanted to help produce the visors too.
“We are producing around 1500 visors and providing packs to willing volunteers to help us make these in bulk for immediate delivery to local hospitals, hospices and care homes in need. We are also now working with other organisations who are making visors in order to scale up the operation.”
The London based lawyers are now looking to increase productions and appealing for people who can assist:
“We are looking for volunteers in the North London area whom we can either drops packs off to, or, to collect from our lobby so as to avoid personal contact. Also, we are looking for hospitals, care homes, care providers and hospices who are in need.
