The Cyprus News Agency (CNA) has learned that the diplomat had come in contact recently at the Ministry with a small number of other diplomats and that as soon as he was tested positive to the coronavirus yesterday, the Ministry was informed accordingly and his contacts were traced.

The Foreign Ministry was shut down last night, following instructions by Foreign Minister, Nikos Christodoulides, so that its premises would be disinfected this morning and staff would be able to go back into the building this afternoon.

Meanwhile, a total of 12651 citizens registered until 1300 local time today to the online platform connect2cy where Cypriots abroad can register. The platform was launched on March 31 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cypriot citizens registered, 60% of whom are university students, live in 100 different countries, most of them in the UK, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands and the US.
