A valuable three points for St Panteleimon as they continue their impressive season. Winslow are the only team to take three points from the Saints this season, but the home side were resolute.

First against third in the league saw a competitive and tight game in the first half. Good chances were saved well by the Winslow keeper. One curling low shot by Noyan Tajbakhsh was well turned away with a strong hand. Ayub Albadri’s pace saw him through on goal but the ball went just wide.

Half time 0-0. The conditions were bitterly cold and there were periods of hail storms. A decent sized crowd (32) braved the conditions and were entertained.

The second half continued the high quality of the game.

In the 61st minute the impressive Brad Gilmaney opened the scoring putting the Saints 1-0 up. The competitive game continued but the Saints now made the game harder for Winslow, by adding a second, from Tajbahksh. 2-0 with 6 minutes left of normal time, but it wasn’t safe yet.

Winslow managed to get one goal back but the game ended 2-1. Three precious points for St Panteleimon. The saints are 9 points ahead with 12 games to go.

There appears to be a growing following for the Saints these days. Groundhopper fans tend to want to come and watch them. There are good footballing reasons for this – they have an attractive style and are close-knit unit. But also good community reasons. The club sees itself as a family and is open and embracing.
