On the serious allegations made by the former advisor to President of the Republic
The President and the Government must reply to all that the former advisor to President Anastasiades Makarios Drousiotis attributes to them about what actually happened at the Crans Montana Conference. The former adviser to President Anastasiades claims the following:
- On the eve of the working dinner at Crans Montana, Mr. Anastasiades met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mr. Cavusoglou and told him that the only solution is a two-state solution because the Greek Cypriots do not accept federation.
- The UN Secretary General informed President Anastasiades that Mr. Cavusoglou didn’t on the one hand have the authorisation to make a commitment in writing for the abolition of the guarantees and a speedy withdrawal of the occupying troops, but assured that he would accept them if they were included in an overall proposal of the United Nations as a package with the four issues regarding the internal aspect (of the Cyprus problem).
- The Secretary General during the working dinner asked Cavusoglou whether he would accept the replacement of the Treaty of Guarantee with the mechanism for the implementation of the solution and that the latter replied that he was open to a dialogue for such a thing but that this would depend on the outcome on the other issues as well.
- President Anastasiades did not accept the informal document on the implementation mechanism of the solution which explicitly excluded any executive or editorial role to the guarantor powers, and only assigned them an advisory role.
- During the working dinner, President Anastasiades, even though he knew of the above, demanded a written statement in advance, with the result the UN Secretary-General declaring the conference closed.
All of these serious allegations evidently are not at all in line with the government’s narrative about the Crans Montana Conference. However, these allegations aren’t made by neither the opposition, nor from abroad, but by a former adviser to President Anastasiades himself, to whom the government has to give answers.The President
