Yasar Halim has passed away at the age of 77, Halim the Turkish Cypriot businessman who founded the well known Yasar Halim supermarket which operates from Green Lanes, Haringey and Palmers Green. . It was sadly announced that Yasar Halim had died at The Whittington Hospital this morning (Tuesday). Halim, who had been struggling with health problems for a while, is expected to be buried in London in the coming days.
Halim says that a blind midwife in Nicosia, Cyprus, had given birth to him in the bread tray and therefore that is why maybe has been dealing with bread all his life. Indicating that his father was a farmer. After primary school Halim, worked as a farmer, construction worker.
He came to England in 1962 and got his bakery experience working in Pittas Pastries and 14 years in PSP Patissiere in Kentish Town.
Yaşar Halim, first opened a bakery/patisserie in Green Lanes on January 26, 1987 within a dense Cypriot community.“
Halim, who married in 1961 to his late wife Cemaliye, has two children, Yeşim (1964) and Mehmet (1969), along with with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
