Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou on golden passports scheme and ‘Le Monde’ press reports
The unprecedented increase in corruption is an “achievement” of the Anastasiades-DISY government

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 17th January 2020, Nicosia
President Anastasiades may think that the golden passports scheme scandal is only discussed in Cyprus, but the biggest French newspaper, Le Monde, reports extensively on the naturalization of fraudsters by Cyprus and about everything happening with the passport-for-investment program after the current government took office.

Actually, the relevant press report posted on her personal twitter account of the Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, Věra Jourová, commented that “tax fraud and corruption can spread because of the lack of transparency in the implementation of the programs granting golden passports to investors.”

If President Anastasiades and DISY do not once again acknowledge the magnitude of our country’s international vilification/defamation as a result of the sale of passports industry that was set up under their administration, then things are even more worrying.

It should be noted that, according to Le Monde’s press report, the Minister of the Interior Mr. Nouris, instead of responding to these press reports when asked by the newspaper’s journalist, “angrily” tried to shift the debate to the refugee/migrant issue. By doing so, the Minister left Cyprus exposed.

The long shadow of the unprecedented increase in corruption in our country is the undoubted “achievement” of the Anastasiades-DISY government.
