Alex and Samuel Charalambous travelled with the UK team to the WJF World Championships and bagged themselves two gold medals and the noteworthy titles of World Champions.

Integrated into the International Martial Arts Games – a global festival bringing together 4000 martial artists from various disciplines across the globe – the WJF World Championships provided a platform for affiliated judoka to compete for a coveted world medal. The judo event itself drew judoka from each corner of the globe. Competitors from across Europe, the Americas, Australia and Asia descended onto Carrara for the one day tournament. Cypriot judoka from the Sobell Judo Club in Islington travelled with the UK team and rose to the occasion coming away with two gold, one silver and one bronze medal. Brothers Alex and Sam Charalambous each claimed a world title each, fellow Cypriots Sam Sampson came away with a silver as well as Alexis Bardini who came away with a bronze. The entire medal haul across the whole UK team resulted in 7 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.
