Leaders and representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties who held Wednesday their regular meeting at Ledra Palace, in Nicosia, agreed that the safeguarding of the security of one community cannot be maintained contrary to the feeling of security of the other.

According to the joint communique of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia who organizes these meetings, they expressed opinions on the issue proposed by the hosting party, the United Cyprus Party (BKP): “For Cypriots to live together is there a need to have guarantors? If a new security system is going to be created, what should that be?”

Participants also reiterated the importance of the UN Secretary General’s Statement at the Berlin meeting reaffirming the significance of the Guterres framework which addresses inter alia the issue of security.

The next regular meeting of the leaders and the representatives of the political parties will be held on Wednesday on 18 December 2019 at the Ledra Palace.
